Inspiration:
01. Tale of Tsar Saltan; Flight of the Bumblebee - The 5 Browns
Summer = bumblebees! Plus I've been starting off each of these with an instrumental or classical song, and I wanted that to continue. So this ended up being perfect. Plus The 5 Browns are amazing.

02. Good Vibrations - The Beach Boys
The Beach Boys are one of my favorite bands anyway, and definitely one of my favorite bands to listen to during the summer (though their Christmas stuff is great too? I digress). It was really hard to pick one song of theirs for this, as so many sound like summer to me, but this is my favorite and I had to pick it. So, so good. Everything about it.

03. Let's Go Surfing - The Drums
This song... oh, this song. I discovered it back in, I think, February? Or January? I don't remember. But I was instantly hooked. This is such a GREAT summer song. I can't resist it. It makes me want to go chill on the beach, and I'm not a big fan of the beach. The one thing that really seals the deal for me is the "down, down baby, down by the rollercoaster..." bit. Great way to put in a children's game/rhyme into the song, which adds a bit of nostalgia to the song. A+.

04. 4th of July - Shooter Jennings
This song has been with me a while. It came out in 2005 and I still remember the first time I heard it. I saw the video on GAC or something and was hooked. Shooter Jennings is the son of Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter which automatically makes him awesome, but this song is just... guh. Easily one of my favorite songs of all time. It's been on every mix CD/playlist I've made for road trips since the summer of 2005. Never gets old. It's just... it's classic.

05. Folding Chair - Regina Spektor
Come and open up your folding chair next to me
My feet are buried in the sand and there’s a breeze
There’s a shadow, you can’t see my eyes
And the sea is just a wetter version of the skies

06. A Summer Song - Chad and Jeremy
Soft kisses on a summer's day
Laughing all our cares away
Just you and I

Sweet sleepy warmth of summer nights
Gazing at the distant lights
In the starry sky

07. Cool Jerk - The Capitols
Three words: Cool Whip commercials. This is just one of those songs you blast when you're having a cookout and you want to get people in a good mood.

08. The Boys of Summer - The Ataris
~Memories~ of... 2003? Yeah? Other than that, I don't think this song really needs much of an explanation. It's just awesome.

09. Free and Easy (Down The Road I Go) - Dierks Bentley
I love road trips, and the best time to take them is during the summer. And this is one of the best road trip songs to come out in recent years. So there ya go.

10. Summer Wind - Michael Buble
The summer wind came blowin' in
From across the sea
It lingered there to touch your hair
And walk with me

All summer long
we sang a song
And then we strolled that golden sand
Two sweethearts and the summer wind

11. Strawberry Swing - Coldplay
This song... omg, I can't even. One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. And it means so much to me, really. I just... yeah, I can't even begin to explain. But it's perfect.

12. Stars and Stripes Forever - Boston Pops
When I think of summer, I think of fireworks. And this is my favorite song to hear during fireworks/4th of July celebrations (mostly because the big fireworks show in Atlanta uses this as their grand finale). So it had to go on here. Just because. There are no words to describe how much I love this song, really.

13. No Particular Place to Go - Chuck Berry
Again, road trips. Plus Chuck Berry is the true king of rock and roll. Badass.

14. Summertime - Charlotte Church
Summertime and the livin’ is easy
Fish are jumpin’ and the cotton is high
Oh your daddy’s rich and your ma is good lookin’
So hush little baby, don’t you cry

15. I Was Made For You - She & Him
Most of She & Him's songs are very springy/summery, but this one takes the cake. It has this really awesome retro beach-party feel to it. Very 60's, very awesome. Always puts me in a good mood.

16. In The Summertime - Mungo Jerry
In the summertime when the weather's high,
you can stretch right up and touch the sky,
when the weather's fine,
you got women, you got women on your mind.
Have a drink, have a drive,
go out and see what you can find.

17. Wipe Out - The Surfaris
Do I really need to explain this one? At like, all? Though apparently I have something for surfing songs when it comes to summer. Even though I don't surf.

18. Steal My Sunshine - Len
This song isn't exactly happy or anything, but damn if it doesn't sound like summer. Always will be one of my favorites.

19. Blue Clear Sky - George Strait
This is just my favorite George Strait song, and I just thought it was a good fit for this. Because it is.

20. Watermelon Weather - Bing Crosby & Peggy Lee
"It's watermelon weather
That summer weather
When people get together and sing

It's the time of year
The stars seem to dance with laughter
And the moon's so big and ripe
It can hardly climb"

21. Ventura Highway - America
"Ventura Highway, in the sunshine
Where the days are longer
The nights are stronger than moonshine
You're gonna go, I know "

22. Under the Boardwalk - The Drifters
One of those perfect songs for summer. The entire song is about it, but not explicitly. Fantastic.

23. Centerfield - John Fogerty
You can't have summer in my house without baseball. So a playlist about summer wouldn't be complete without the greatest baseball song of all time.

24. Summer in the City - The Lovin' Spoonful
But at night it's a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come-on come-on and dance all night
Despite the heat it'll be alright

25. Moon River - Audrey Hepburn
Not even sure why I consider this such a summer song, but it feels that way to me. It's such a lovely song from an absolutely lovely movie... it just has that nice laid back feel I enjoy during the summer. Amazing.
